Children are key stakeholders for the extractive industry, with impacts going beyond child labour to decent work, health and safety, environmental impacts, and security arrangements. By addressing children’s considerations, companies can minimize risk, extend community ownership, and enhance workforce engagement. There is pioneering work being done in this area across the sector from exploration through construction to production. This event will present tangible steps that companies can take at every stage of the mining cycle, and case studies from companies who are pioneering this approach. From a junior exploration company constructively engaging artisanal miners, to mid-sized producers incorporating children’s rights into company policies and practices, there is something for everyone. Come with your questions for the panel, which will include:

  • Glenn Gemerts, Chair of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development
  • Meg French, Director of International Policy and Programs, UNICEF Canada
  • Stephen Burega, Chief Executive Officer, Rakai Resources
  • Mark Sitter, Corporate Sustainability Director, Sherritt International
  • Monica Moretto, Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs and Social Responsibility, Pan-American Silver
