The extractive industry drives economic growth across the world but also causes significant pollution. A transition to a green economy will still require minerals. However, pollution of air, land and water and biodiversity loss are just some of the threats to human health and the environment. There is increasing momentum in private sector and government circles to improve extractive sector environmental performance. But much more needs to be done. This event presents will increase global awareness on extractive pollution and raise the bar for countries and companies committed to address extractive pollution. It will look at the technical solutions and international legal mechanisms that can bring this about.
