Event Description

Dear colleagues and partners,

We would like to inform you about the upcoming training on Extractive Resources and Economic Linkages - Promoting Economic Linkages to the Extractive Sector taking place from 17th-19th October this year in Berlin, Germany.

Background
For resource rich developing countries, the extractive industries (EI) present one of the few comparative advantage sectors, which will inevitably continue to play an important role in their respective economic development strategies. Historically, much emphasis has been placed on how developing countries can attract foreign direct investment in the EI sector to increase domestic revenue collection. Less focus has been placed on how foreign EI investments can be ‘linked’ to the domestic economy to increase the skill level in the country and diversify the economy in the long term.

This training aims at closing this gap and at informing practitioners, companies and partner governments on how linkages can be promoted to the extractive sector. The training provides insights on diverse types of economic linkages and how to promote these different types regarding the specific context.

Target audience, trainers and methods
The training was developed for agents from partner governments and companies that work in mid-level positions and are interested in building economic linkages to the extractive sector as well as GIZ advisors from extractive resource and sustainable economic development projects.

The training will be given by expert trainers from the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment and methods of the training include lectures and Q&A, peer-to-peer learning exercises, breakout sessions and plenary debriefing, role play, open facilitated conversation as well as legal text analysis.

You can find more detailed information about the training course on the web side of AIZ. The registration is open and can be found here. Please feel free to spread the word and forward the information to interested persons.
