International consultant – economist (Afghanistan National Human Development Report on extractive industries)

The National Human Development Report (NHDR) of Afghanistan will examine the potential of the extractive sector and look into how it could contribute to the human development in the country. The main purpose of this report is to provide evidence-based policy options so that economic growth could help reduce vulnerabilities and poverty, strengthen the resilience of the licit economy, reduce the illicit economy in its multiple dimensions, and thus promote human development.
This is an individual consultancy to write background papers and parts of Afghanistan NHDR on economic aspects of extractive industries. In parallel to this consultancy, other studies will also be commissioned on political, social-environmental aspects of Afghanistan’s extractive sectors, as well as value chain analysis of mineral commodities – gemstones and gold.
