Corporate Engagement and Policy Manager/Officer at EITI International Secretariat in Oslo

The Extractives Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is looking for a key staff member in Oslo, Norway. This is an opportunity to work in an international and vibrant environment. Our work focuses on helping citizens of resource-rich countries benefit from their natural resources by promoting the Standard for good governance of the extractive industries.

We are looking for a manager or officer to support the implementation of EITI’s policy priorities related to extractive sector governance, with a particular focus on company disclosures, state-owned enterprise transparency and reporting on the sale of oil, gas and minerals.

In addition to policy responsibilities, the manager/officer would be supporting the roll-out of the expectations for EITI supporting companies by developing targeted outreach and strategic engagement plans for corporate sector partners. EITI supporting companies are expected to publish tax and other payments in all countries in which they operate, disclose their beneficial owners as well as those for joint venture partners and contractors, and promote contract transparency in the jurisdictions in which they operate.[1]

Knowledge and experience with corporate governance in the oil, gas and mining sector is required.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support the policy group’s work on improving transparency of state-owned enterprises and the sale of oil, gas and minerals (commodity trading), including:
    1. supporting the implementation of relevant reporting requirements in EITI countries,
    2. coordinating the EITI working groups and networks dedicated to advancing these issues,
    3. reporting on progress to the EITI Board.
  2. Support the roll-out of the EITI company expectations, by developing targeted outreach and strategic engagement plans for both new and existing corporate sector partners in the oil, gas and mining industries.
  3. Develop and effectively manage strategic opportunities to deploy the Chair of the Board and the EITI’s Executive Director in key corporate relationships and prepare them for key meetings.
  4. Contribute to the drafting of outreach material and reports, such as preparing briefs with EITI staff members ahead of meetings with industry representatives, updating the EITI Business Guide and documenting the impact of corporate engagement ahead of EITI’s 2019 Global Conference.
  5. Liaise and coordinate with partner organisations, industry associations and company representatives, building strategic partnerships to establish support and understanding of the EITI’s mission and work.
  6. Identify opportunities to raise corporate funding for the EITI.

 Required Qualifications

  • Relevant advanced university degree.
  • 3-7 years of applicable experience with government, company, civil society organisation, or a development agency. Experience with oil, gas and mining companies, state-owned enterprises and commodity trading companies is an advantage.
  • A sound knowledge of the private sector and extractive industries in particular.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders, in particular industry, through a combination of strong writing, presentation and networking skills. An understanding of the incentives for business and investors to be supportive of promoting transparency, and of corporate strategy as it relates to corporate social responsibility and shared value partnerships with INGOs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work flexibly with a wide range of team members, while retaining the ability to act independently.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. Fluency in French or Spanish is desirable though not required. Other languages are an advantage.
  • Willingness to work in an “all hands on deck” environment, and engage in a variety of tasks.
  • Experience working in an international environment is an advantage.
