"Queen's University in Canada where I teach has a new fully online Bachelor of Mining Technology program, that has a 4th year course in Ore Body Modelling and Resource Estimation ( offered Fall 2018 as I recall). I mention the program to…"
Professor of Mining Engineering with a constructive critical focus on issues related to sustainability. I explore intercultural competence as a tool for mitigating social risk.
In particular, I am interested in the potential for resource projects to contribute to the well-being and resilience of communities, to the revitalization of cultures recovering from the impacts of colonization and, in the Canadian context, to the national objective of Reconciliation. My teaching challenges engineering students to consider questions of governance and inequitable distribution of impacts and benefits and how they might incorporate values of sustainability and equity into their own practice to move these agendas forward.
