New study on social management practices in the Peruvian mining industry

The Center for Mining and Sustainability Studies (CEMS) at the Universidad del Pacífico in Lima has published a  report on the results of the Center's 2017 survey of social management practices in the Peruvian mining sector. The study, which was funded by Peru’s National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy (SNMPE), used a 112-item questionnaire to collect data directly from mining company members of the Society.  The 26 companies that responded account for 80 - 85 % of Peru’s mining production.…See More

About My Work
I retired from the University of Queensland in mid-2016, where I was foundation director of the Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining and, in later years, Deputy Director of the Sustainable Minerals Institute. I remain active as a consultant and researcher. My main area of geographical interest is now Latin America, and Peru in particular. I am currently an Honorary Associate of the Center for Mining and Sustainability Studies (CEMS) at the Universidad del Pacífico in Lima, where I was based for six months in 2017.

Applications for the 2012 Graduate Program in Community Relations (Resources Sector) are now open.

There is a quota of 35 places so early applications are strongly advised. The 2011 Program will commence with an intensive week delivered in Brisbane between 13th to 17th February 2012, with the remaining core courses delivered remotely in online mode.
