About My Work
I work with the Artisanal Gold Council (AGC) in Victoria, BC, Canada. The vision of the AGC is to help create profound positive changes in the ASGM (artisanal and small scale gold mining) sector globally, including a significant reduction in global mercury emissions, the formalization of ASGM and the improvement of livelihoods of the millions of people currently involved in the sector.

I am currently writing the UNEP ASGM Baseline Toolkit and Guidebook, which will be used by executing agencies to summarize the national ASGM sector and determine national mercury baseline measurements for the National Action Plan (NAP) component of the Minamata Convention.

I am also involved in collating new data on mercury use and emissions made by the ASGM sector for the 2018 Global Mercury Assessment (GMA). The mission of the GMA is to provide the most recent information available on worldwide atmospheric mercury emissions, releases to the aquatic environment, and the transport and fate of mercury in the global environment. The 2018 GMA inventory product may be taken into consideration by some countries in a Minamata mercury baseline context so it is important that the new ASGM estimates reflect the best possible up-to-date information available.
