About My Work
I am an advisor and researcher with the U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Center, housed at the Christian Michelsen Institute in Bergen, Norway. I am trained as a political economist, and carries out research on corruption and anti-corruption in the extractive industries and other natural resource sectors. The research projects I am currently involved with examine the impact of multi-stakeholder natural resource governance initiatives on public goods provision in member states; identify corruption risks and mitigation strategies in natural resource benefit sharing mechanisms; examine private sector approaches to transparency and accountability in natural resource sectors; and analyze legal requirements for community development in the mining sector. I also facilitate workshops and online trainings on corruption and anti-corruption in natural resource management.

New publication on anti-corruption in community development schemes in the mining sector

The U4 Anti-Corruption Center is pleased to announce that it has just published a new research report on how to prevent corruption in community development initiatives in the mining sector. The publication, authored by Dr. Michael Nest, analyses patterns of corruption and corruption risks related to community mineral beneficiation schemes (CMBSs) that distribute benefits funded by mineral revenues to communities.
