About My Work
María Sol Iriart specializes in Mining Law and Policy. She has over ten years’ experience in the mining sector in Argentina, as well as in other countries in Latin America, working for the private sector and international institutions, in advisory, consulting, management, and research positions. She pursued her Master’s Degree in Mineral Law and Policy (LL.M., with distinction) at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy, University of Dundee (CEPMLP/Dundee), and Master’s Degree in International Relations with Specialization in International Law and International Organizations at the University of Buenos Aires. She is currently providing advisory and consulting services, and collaborate in research projects for third parties.
She has in-depth knowledge of the regulatory and permitting framework in Argentina. She has been directly involved in managing projects in ten provinces of the country - Jujuy, Salta, Catamarca, San Juan, La Rioja, Santa Cruz, Chubut, Río Negro, Neuquén, and Corrientes. She has conducted multiple assessments, recommendations and legal research on mining properties; identifying and preventing a wide range of different risks, minimizing impacts and bringing solutions by working in multidisciplinary groups. She has also negotiated and drafted a wide range of agreements related to properties’ acquisition. She has extensive knowledge of best practice in mining and expertise on stakeholders’ engagement.
She is a registered professional at the UNDP’s Crisis Bureau (CB), 'Experts Roster in the Extractive Industries from Latin America'. She has contributed as an external consultant to the OECD, the IGF on Mining and on research projects to CEPMLP/Dundee. She has engaged on a variety of topics related to natural resources, mainly mineral resources; in the course of her research, with a special focus on evolving mining law and policy & resource governance, advancing and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (the SDGs) and strategic dialogues at the international level.
