Call for applications: AFRICA REIK HUB 2013 SUMMER SCHOOL ON GOVERNANCE OF OIL, GAS AND MINING REVENUES

The Regional Extractive Industries Knowledge Hub is a center of knowledge development established by Revenue Watch Institute (RWI) in collaboration with German International Development Cooperation (GIZ).

Over the last four years, 167 participants have come from Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, South Sudan, Malawi, South Africa, Zambia, Kenya and Ghana. In 2013 countries represented will be broadened further to include more resource rich countries in Anglophone Africa. Resource persons are seasoned experts from across the continent who have both academic and activism backgrounds.

The Knowledge Hub would like to inform interested individuals and organisations of its Annual Summer School on the Governance of Oil, Gas and Mining Revenues which will take place from 11th- 24th August 2013 in Accra, Ghana.

The summer school is open to senior level civil society activists, Government officials, youth activists and traditional authorities who are engaged in the sector, Members of Parliament and clerks serving in Extractive Industries relevant parliamentary sub-committees and senior level journalists/editors that cover EI relevant topics.  The 2-week residential course comprehensively covers the EI value chain and seeks to deepen knowledge and equip participants with skills for them to undertake independent analysis of fiscal and revenue management policies, EITI reports, Contracts and key legislation in their own countries.

Individuals interested in participating in this year’s summer school, should complete the online application form (here:link)  and submit all supporting documents to the RWI regional office at the address indicated no later than 25th June 2013.

For quality purposes, the total number of places will not exceed 40 participants. As limited number of places at the summer school will be fully funded, further participation is made possible through sponsorship from interested grant making institutions.  Grant making institutions are therefore strongly encouraged to consider sponsoring their partners to attend this course. Full scholarships for the two weeks (including accommodation, food, tuition and field trip expenses) cost $2,500. On top of this, sponsoring institutions would need to cover separately travel to and from the summer school, plus provide for out of pocket expenses for their recipients. As space is limited, sponsors are requested to send their intentions (including the number of recipients they would like to sponsor this year) as soon as possible.  Further information, including a detailed course outline are available on request.

To register your interest to be a sponsor, please contact the Revenue Watch Ghana Office Manager, Brigitte Buahin bbuahin@revenuewatch.org, the Africa Regional Coordinator, Emmanuel Kuyole ekuyole@revenuewatch.org and Rushaiya Ibrahim-Tanko africatemprwi@revenuewatch.org or call +233 303 223815/+233 302242345.
