National Land and Mining Stakeholder Forum

Friday 18th November 2016 (08:00 to 17:00 p.m.)

Venue: Nairobi Safari Club

The National Land and Mining Stakeholder Forum convened by partners Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), Taita Resource Centre (TARC), Thamani Trust and Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB) is an event aiming to create a platform for dialogue addressing land and mining rights issues and strategic advocacy by impacted communities.

The forum will seek to explore opportunities for delivering an integrated, multi-stakeholder approach to addressing land and mining issues in counties, focusing on Taita Taveta County, with a view of gaining insights and perspectives from similar activities and communities in other parts of Kenya. It will assemble approximately 70 stakeholders drawn from government, private sector, media, civil society – including mining community representatives, women’s rights organizations, development partners and academia to explore practical mechanisms for working together while implementing their core mandates.

As part of the forum’s key objective to strengthen dialogue and consultation platforms and channels between the community leaders, the national and county governments, development agencies and industry, we would like to invite members active in the Extractive industry to present their original research findings and/or experiences that can contribute meaningfully to sustainable and practical solutions.

Topics of Interest include:

  • Community Consultation and Engagement
  • Land dispute resolutions and historical injustices
  • Fair distribution and access to land and minerals rights by communities
  • Devolution and the management of land and mineral rights
  • Economic Empowerment of communities through natural resource development and benefit sharing
  • Dissemination of land and mining laws and policies to communities
  • Sustainable Corporate Social Investment
