sharing in governance of extractive industries
We are pleased to announce the release of IGF Guidance on Local Content Policies for the mining sector!
The document sets out a step-by-step approach to help the decision-making process regarding the design of local content policies to encourage:
(i) Local procurement of goods and services
(ii) Direct employment of locals or disadvantaged persons
(iii) Downstream linkages (i.e., processing of extracted products)
(iv) Horizontal linkages (spillover benefits from mining into non-mining sectors)
(v) Building domestic capacity in the mining sector
The document is backed by 29 case studies, providing evidence of what has worked (or not). These are also published as stand-alone short papers.
You can download the Guidance and read the case studies on: http://igfmining.org/guidance-documents/local-content-guidance/
