sharing in governance of extractive industries
Dear EGMs members,
We invite you to review the first draft of the How-To Guidance Note on Integrating Human Rights into Environmental Governance of Mining.
This How-To Guidance Note has been developed jointly by the UNDP Bureau for Policy and Programme Support and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and as part of a cross-practice collaboration between the Sustainable Development and Governance & Peacebuilding Clusters under the “Joint Global Programme for Environmental Governance for Sustainable Natural Resources Management.”
This note illustrates how to ensure more holistic, rights-based governance approaches of the mining sector that helps prevent environmental degradation and any negative social and human rights impacts. In addition, it provides tools and methodologies for ensuring better social and environmental outcomes in line with the SDGs at each stage of the mining cycle.
We welcome any comments on the content, structure and presentation of the guidance, including suggestions for additional resources and country experiences. Your contributions will be recognized in the final document.
The final Note will be made available online as a searchable and updatable living reference document, in addition to printed and shorter summary versions. It will also be used as the basis for an on-line self-paced course.
We would be grateful if you could also rate the Guidance Note (please see Peer Review Criteria form) in accordance with UNDP’s quality assurance procedures.

We look forward to your contributions!
