sharing in governance of extractive industries
The Sector Project Sustainable Economic Policy and Private Sector Development of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is delighted to announce the final version of the “Navigator to Support Economic Diversification: Instruments for Resource-Rich Developing Countries”. It has been prepared by the GIZ-Sector Project on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (Division 114 - Cooperation with the Private Sector; Sustainable Economic Policy) in cooperation with Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining at the University of Queensland.
Despite the challenges faced by resource-rich countries, like the fluctuation of commodity prices and risks for the international competitiveness of the local economy, the extractive industry also offers a high potential for the economic development of these countries. The promotion of economic diversification and linkages between the extractive industry and the local economy can stimulate sustainable economic growth in resource-rich countries. This has already been shown in the study „Linkages to the Resource Sector – The Role of Companies, Government...“.
The Navigator presented here navigates the user through relevant instruments to promote diversification of resource-rich economies. It presents instruments (initiatives, tools and good practices) and at the same time takes into account different types of economic linkages. By using the Navigator, representatives of partner governments and stakeholders from the private sector and development cooperation can identify instruments relevant for the respective context and find information about their application in the form of short descriptions, tables, diagrams and case studies.
The publication is available online. Please do forward the information to interested colleagues. In case of questions and comments, do not hesitate to contact our sector project (contact person: Maren Koehlmann: firstname.lastname@example.org).
We hope you will find the publication interesting and relevant to your work.
