The Open Government Partnership (OGP) Openness in Natural Resources Working Group (ONRWG), co-chaired by the governments of Indonesia and Mexico, NRGI and the World Resources Institute (WRI), is a thematic member-driven community that fosters the creation and implementation of concrete and impactful natural resource-related commitments. The ONRWG takes a focused approach on natural resource issues, zeroing in on disclosure of contracts, beneficial ownership and environmental data, as well as adherence to open data standards. The working group provides a space for peer learning between and across government and civil society. It encourages information exchange on innovative approaches and good practices that inform the development and monitoring of natural resource-related commitments. Additionally, it seeks to build capacity and provides technical support on a per-request basis to participating OGP countries. We are looking for a coordinator to undertake the following tasks:
a) Coordinate the work of the Open Government Partnership Openness in Natural Resources Working Group (ONRWG), including providing support to solidify the membership and ensuring the smooth coordination of all working group anchors, members and partners;
b) Support to retain and maintain relationships with members of the ONRWG, and communicate with interested / potential members, as necessary.
c) Provide support to successfully deliver all events of the ONRWG, including webinars, peer exchanges, working group meetings, and related activities.
d) Conduct analysis on natural resource related commitments, including a short report when national action plans are submitted (summer 2016), and produce policy briefs, press releases, blog posts, and articles as requested
e) Coordinate responses to requests for technical assistance work from OGP participating countries and communicate with members on an as-needed basis, to follow-up on OGP and working group-related commitments.
f) Stay abreast of development related to OGP and natural resource to ensure the ONRWG seizes opportunities as they arise;
g) Coordinate and communicate with OGP Support Unit for updates on the ONRWG's achievements and progress, and draft reports as required by the OGP; and
h) Other ONRWG support as requested.
Estimated weekly hours: Between 8 and 15 hours.
Duration: 6 months, with possibility of extension
Location: New York or Washington DC (with authorization to work in the US)
