sharing in governance of extractive industries

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

Public education on mining has been largely missing in Mongolia, Mendee Jargalsaikhan and Julian Dierkes argue. On the occasion of the100-year anniversary of industrial mining in that country, the authors propose a multi-disciplinary mining museum and education center in Nalaikh, the birthplace of mining in Mongolia.

Quite a few changes have happened in the global extractive industries since the Nalaikh mine was opened. In the past 10 years alone, the number of countries that require contract transparency has gone up to 27 from less than 10, as Robert Pitman discusses in this interview with the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).

Meanwhile, EITI announces Mark Robinson as its new Executive Director.

And Levin Sources invites feedback on its briefing document on Gender Safeguards for the Kimberley Process.
