sharing in governance of extractive industries

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

What exactly is a profit? Andrew Bauer and Arkar Hein open the black box of Myanmar's state-owned enterprises, including how some of them make "profits" by collecting taxes and fees.

How can we transform the world while building great and sustainable businesses? Sarah Busque recaps the Responsible Business Summit Europe.

One way is by increasing transparency and deepening civic engagement in government contracting, according to Rob Pitman and his co-authors in this new report by the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) and the Open Contracting Partnership: Shining a Light on Good Practice.

But the time to test such improved governance practices is the time of crisis. In another report by NRGI, David Mihalyi and Liliana Fernández analyze how fiscal rules held up during the commodity price crash.

Gwendolyn Wellman debunks the notion that putting women and women’s rights in the spotlight during the resettlement consultation process would put women to shame, as she shares thoughts on resettlement impact assessments and women.

Stefanie Heerwig proposes that governments and companies will take civil society advocacy for better governance in the mining sector more seriously if campaigns are better-researched and have hard facts. The Regional Resource Governance in West Africa (ReGo) Programme is... in that regard.

Such data underlies the Mining Local Procurement Reporting Mechanism / mécanisme de reporti..., which is shared by Emily Nickerson in English and French.
