sharing in governance of extractive industries

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

The potential for the fiscal regime to be used as a tool for environmental protection in the mining sector is under-explored, writes Steve Macey, as he seeks to mainstream it. Mukasiri Sibanda too knits together the fabric for sustainable development from mineral revenue for Zimbabwe.

In an experiment of "governance without enforcement," the International Panel on Arctic Environmental Responsibility (IPAER) seeks members to help promote better environmental performance in Arctic resource extraction industries.

In similar fashion, UNDP and the Canadian International Resources and Development Institute (CIRDI), have validated their regional study on Participatory Environmental Monitoring Committees (PEMCs), with cases from Argentina, Bolivia, Panama, and Peru.

Is it the water? A three-year study to assess how to quantify water-related risks of mining portfolios presents its results.

GIZ wants your input for the encyclopedia on gender and mining. (Also en Español and en francais)

And on the occasion of the EITI regional conference on beneficial ownership in Dakar, Senegal, Transparency International releases a new guide for governments on how to use beneficial ownership data to combat corruption in licens....
