sharing in governance of extractive industries

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

In 2017, mineral exports from Peru exceeded $27 billion, says Oxfam's Daniel Mulé. So why aren't Peruvians celebrating? Mulé unlocks the Peruvian Paradox.

Sarah Busque writes: "It’s now possible for people to (at different degrees) influence the course of the project of a corporation in a much shorter period of time than a decade ago when information was flowing much slowly across the different stakeholders involved." Thus, she calls for embracing new data management technologies and artificial intelligence.

To further increase transparency of the mining sector, EITI reports that Publish What You Pay Mali (PWYP-Mali) is campaigning at local and governmental levels for the systematic publication of “patents” within the EITI framework.

And Alice Powell rounds up natural resource governance news for July.
