sharing in governance of extractive industries

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

The United Nations' handbook on extractive industries taxation "fell short of addressing how beneficial ownership and project-level reporting disclosure can help address concerns on these topics." The EITI takes it from there.

Also in the spirit of transparency, the Regional Certification Mechanism (RCM) sets the rules for the chain of custody systems of 3Ts (tin, tantalum, tungsten) and gold (G) in Africa's Great Lakes Region. After six years of the mechanism's implementation, you are invited to contribute to revising the RCM Manual

Paul Ogwu reports that Nigerria* has around 170 artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sites with over 400,000 people directly involved, 300,000 indirectly involved, and around 300,000 service providers. For effective and efficient maximization of the benefit of the ASM, he argues, the country should intensify efforts to formalize ASM operations.

And Alice Powell wraps up news from around the world of natural resources in August.

Remember: The IMF's online course on macroeconomic management in resource-rich countries begins tomorrow.
