Drawing on the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) reporting requirements and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) due diligence guidelines, the London Metals Exchange has launched a formal consultation to ensure that minerals produced in conflict affected, high-risk areas, meet international transparency and accountability standards.

Far less scrutinized are national oil companies over their management of more than $3.1 trillion in combined assets, according to a new report by the Natural Resource Governance Institute’s (NRGI).

The Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva present a knowledge hub and toolkit for companies operating in complex security environments.

Andrew Bauer is a public finance and governance consultant to governments, parliaments and international organizations. He provides technical assistance on public financial management; sovereign wealth fund and state-owned enterprise governance; intergovernmental transfers; and mining and petroleum sector regulation. He has advised in more than 25 countries, including Canada, Ghana, Guyana, Indonesia, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Mexico, Mongolia, Myanmar, South Africa and Timor-Leste.

A former senior economic analyst at the Natural Resource Governance Institute, he also served on the Government of Canada’s G8/20 team in the Department of Finance and has worked for several governmental, private sector, academic and non-profit organizations, including the ADB and UNEP. He is the author of several publications on public finance and has been featured by the BBC, the Economist and Reuters. He holds a BA from McGill University and an MSc in economics for development from Oxford University.
