Weekly GOXI: Crowdsourcing community relations-The Secret World of Gold-Jobs-More...

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

If you're a mining company trying to figure out how to engage a community, should you consult a "local expert?" In response to a post by Sarah Busque, Jules Mulya urges companies to minimize their risk by tapping into the power of the crowd.

Charles Young reports a move by Zambia towards greater transparency in the issuance of mining licences.

From hot underground mines to chilled bottles of champagne, as the price of gold dances, we share a video series on the Secret World of Gold.

Remember: Look out for the winners of the GOXI Photo Competition!

Featured member - Vivien Johnston

Vivien Johnston has over 15 years of experience in the jewelry industry and specializes in responsible sourcing of precious metals, diamonds and gems. Whilst working as Head of Design for a commerical jewelry brand, Vivien explored the potential for downstream consumer-facing businesses to create positive impacts for mining communities. She also recognised opportunities for governments to consider precious natural resources as peace assets and sustainable development tools.

In 2006, she founded her own brand to promote positive ethics in mining and jewelry. Fifi Bijoux uses materials exclusively from traceable and ethical sources. This led to consulting opportunities for a range of clients including junior mining companies, international brands and agencies, NGO's and natural resource governance advisors. International assignments have taken Vivien to USA, China, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Mongolia and continental Europe. She has also worked on brand design, strategy and identity.

Vivien currently chairs the Ethics Working Party for the two largest jewelry trade associations in the UK. She regularly consults as an associate for special projects and as part of a team within larger organizations.
