sharing in governance of extractive industries

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

What is a fair return on investment? That is the question on Joseph Mensah's mind as he shares his thoughts on a series of documentary films. Christopher Walker too shares a video, one he made himself about the resource curse in the Republic of Congo. And Dana Wilkins believes South Sudan's new petroleum laws can keep Africa's youngest country from such a fate.

Featured Member - Laura Paler

Laura Paler conducts research on the effects of natural resource revenue on transparency, accountability, and conflict. Her research has two key features: (1) impact evaluations to ascertain the effect of different policy interventions on mitigating the resource curse; and (2) why natural resources undermine good governance. She achieves these goals by collecting original data (typically through large-scale surveys) from both citizens and politicians.
