sharing in governance of extractive industries

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

A better approach to fighting corruption in community mineral beneficiation schemes, according to a new report, is to first understand local political dynamics and ambitions for development.

Paul Cisneros shares a new publication on the influence of civil society in mining policies in seven countries in Latin America: Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay.

Also for Latin America, as global discussions continue about disclosing beneficial owners of extractives assets, GIZ, in cooperation with EITI, puts the issues in the context of Latin America and the Caribbean, offering a methodological guideline for meeting EITI requirements.

The Responsible Mining Foundation too has released a draft methodology of the Responsible Mining Index for public comment. (Available in English, Spanish, French, Russian, and Chinese)

And Mulya Jules calls on companies to stop focusing on NGO-type community initiatives in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

These and more jobs, blogs, photos, videos, and discussions.
