sharing in governance of extractive industries

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

New research by The Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining (CSRM) at the University of Queensland
shows "significant variation in how sustainability certification schemes in the mining industry have been designed to meet their objectives." Renzo Mori Junior shares the full report.

"Throughout Africa’s Great Lakes region," as Cristina Villegas puts it, "the international community has closely watched, and regulated, the extraction and sale of conflict minerals – tin, tungsten tantalum (3Ts) and gold – in the hopes of curtailing ongoing violence." So five years on, how is the Tin Supply Chain Initiative working?

How much exactly does mining contribute to Malawi's GDP? It depends--whether you believe the country's president's State of the Union address or the government's annual economic report.

Martin Lokanc shares the World Bank's Fifth Zambia Economic Brief, "Making Mining Work for Zambia: The Economic, Health, and Environmental Nexus of Zambia's Copper Mining Economy."

Remember: Oil, Gas and Energy Law Intelligence (OGEL) invites you to submit to a special issue on Energy Law and Policy in the Middle East and North Africa.

Meanwhile, OGEL also presents its special issue on "Dealing with Diversity in International Arbitration."
