Weekly GOXI: Tax avoidance-Haiti's minerals-Call for papers on energy-Jobs-More...

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

The billions of dollars in unpaid taxes to the government of Nigeria, as revealed in a recent Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) audit, have prompted Musiime Chris to call for Uganda to join EITI.

Edmund rich emphasizes the point in his piece on the relationship between EITI and tax justice.

Haiti is far from the point collecting (or not collecting) revenues of such amounts, but the discovery of some $20 billion in mineral deposits is raising cautious optimism, reports Saleem Ali.

Assistance offered by OfD includes technical assistance to develop legal frameworks, frameworks for exploration and production, administration and supervision mechanisms, licensing and tendering processes, systems for fiscal metering and tax reference pricing, framework conditions to attract international oil companies, and policies to stimulate technology development, education and vocational training and the involvement of local industry.
