sharing in governance of extractive industries

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

Latin America was in all headlines at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference in Toronto, according to Leonardo Sempertegui, who paints a bright future for mining in his comprehensive report of the conference. Countries that made a strong showing included Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú.

On "Ecuador Day," the Mining Minister committed her country to implement the EITI standard. Conspicuously missing in the discussions at PDAC, however, was Venezuela.

In a more cautious view of the future of mining, Nneoma Nwogu shares an excerpt from her unpublished paper framing local (dis)content in the age of automation

But staying positive, Karl Sauvant of the Columbia Center suggests ways in which stakeholders can utilize and promote sustainable Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Elliot Smith shares OECD Development Center's call for public consultation for Guiding Principles for Durable Extractive Contracts.

As part of OpenOil's public interest financial modelling library, Johnny West models Guyana's oil deal and shows the government leaving billions on the table.

EITI is pressing for progress on gender while Publish What You Pay wonders if women have been left behind in the transparency and accountability agenda.

The Inter-governmental Forum shares an interview with John Tychsen on artisanal and small-scale mining training

And John Feast announces Uganda's implementation of online mining licensing system
