sharing in governance of extractive industries

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI - March 22, 2012

It's an enduring debate in the quest to use natural resources for sustainable development: Should contracts between governments and companies be available to the public? But even if contracts were public, the structure, ethics, mechanics, and technology for making sense of such a body of complex information is a major challenge. But Johnny West argues that it's more feasible than the opponents of contract transparency make it out to be.

The campaign to make revenues transparent has advanced farther, and the EITI has published data from six years of recording payments from companies to governments, as James Duncan reports.

Nick Young focuses his attention on Uganda, as he and ActionAid launch a website dedicated to oil in Uganda

And Zara Rahman reveals some interesting attitudes of Libyans to their country's oil.
