sharing in governance of extractive industries

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

In her contribution to last week's discussion in our series--NEW TECH, NEW DEAL--Isabelle Ramdoo explains, "What is different today, is that the type and pace of change is occurring at a speed and scale never seen before." She adds, "Are the current institutions and policies in place fit for those changes?" Also in the conversation are Osvaldo Urzua, Jed Miller, Michel Jebrak, Roy Jakola, Luke ViljoenAudrey Cash, and Rene Roger Tissot. You can still contribute to the discussion.

This week, Osvaldo Urzua, starts a new thread on how to increase local content and deliver shared value through smart inclusive mining. Remember to tweet with #NewTechNewDeal

Also on GOXI this week....

In the first of a planned annual series, Delve presents the 2019 State of the Small-Scale and Artisanal Mining Sector report, which focuses on the global data gap.

Zimbabwe is said to be open for busines, but is Zimbabwe open about business? Mukasiri Sibanda explores. Sibanda also writes this week about Devolution and about the Gwanda Community.

Germany's 2016 EITI covered, among other disclosures, the amount of water consumed by the extractive sector in each state and described the rules and fees for water usage. Germany's federal structure does, however, introduce unique complexities that hinder comprehensive disclosure. Still, EITI commends Germany for exemplary leadership.

Chad too is making some progress, according to EITI, though uneven.

And, as Iraq begins its second validation, EITI says the country has a chance to lead on systematic transparency. The political will seems to be there.
