sharing in governance of extractive industries

A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

You've heard it before: First impressions count. But to what extent do they affect community relations for a mining project? A new paper finds out

Askhar Bakeyi too looks at community relations, but through the lens of Cooperation Agreements in Mongolia (called Community Development Agreements in other places).

Oxfam gets yet more specific on community relations in its new report on the implementation of the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) standard for a Tullow Oil project in Turkana, Kenya.

“Illicit Financial Flows are simple theft of public resources” was one of the key takeaways contained in Mukasiri Sibanda's report from the Zimbabawe Alternative Mining Indaba.

Alison Taylor argues for extractives companies to remain committed to transparency in spite of the U.S. government's decision to withdraw from the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.

And Martin Brown commends Daniel Gilbert and CEPLMP for an excellent event for CEPMLP@40

These and more jobs, blogs, photos, videos, and discussions are on GOXI.

REMEMBER:

The NBSAP Forum, the Swedish Environmental Protection AgencyGOXI, and UNDP are hosting a webinar series on Environmental Governance of the Mining Sector.

The webinars, which started in September, look at how better environmental governance of the sector can help prevent socio-environmental mining conflicts, and ensure between environment and social outcomes.

All webinars are available in English. There will also be one webinar each in Spanish, Portuguese, and Mongolian.

Register once and attend as many webinars as you want. See more info
