A weekly digest of activity on GOXI

Dear GOXIans -  Due to a system-wide problem with our web hosts, you may have experienced delays in accessing GOXI last week. We are sorry for the interruption. You may still access the Weekly GOXI of October 3. And this week's is below:

China pursues a Resource Financed Infrastructure (RFI) model, Japan funds and implements geological surveys, and Australia and Canada position themselves as experts in sustainable mining. What, therefore, should the EU's strategy be for raw materials engagement? The STRADE project is exploring this question.

Marc Choyt says the recycled gold “movement”, as an anti-mining deterrent, is an ethical facade not backed up by reality, as he makes the case for Fairtrade gold jewelry for those who wish to "empower grassroots economic development, and support an international movement that will transform the sourcing of jewelry."

With the case of Newmont and Familia Acuña Chaupe in Peru, Andres Recalde illustrates the need for a social license to operate .

Next door, what does the killing of the Bolivian Deputy Minister say about mining cooperatives? Alex Tilley discusses.

It is partly to minimize such risks that Sandy Worden and her co-authors argue that establishing a clear understanding about where a risk is directed in the mining ... is important from multiple vantage points: due diligence, risk and liability management and social protections.

These and more jobs, blogs, photos, videos, and discussions.
