Regional Director/Country Manager for Africa at EITI International Secretariat

The Extractives Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is currently looking for a Regional Director/ Country Manager for Africa in Oslo, Norway. This is an opportunity to work in an international and vibrant environment. Our work focuses on helping citizens of resource-rich countries benefit from their natural resources, and subjects at the cutting edge of development and the extractive industries.

A Regional Director/Country Manager takes responsibility to coordinate and support EITI activities, both directly by the International Secretariat and through partners, in a portfolio of countries. At present, the EITI is being implemented in 51 countries.

In addition to country responsibilities, Regional Directors/Country Managers take the lead on specific policy and thematic issues related to extractive sector governance and support the International Secretariat’s work on management, finance, training, communication and research.

Knowledge and experience in Anglophone and Lusophone Africa is required. Candidates from the region are particularly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support and guide countries on the implementation of the EITI Standard, including close liaison with government officials, company representatives and civil society groups in implementing countries.
  2. Lead regional coordination, networking and capacity building.
  3. Promote outreach activities in countries not currently implementing the EITI.
  4. Provide steering of activities including analysis, training and producing communication materials.
  5. Liaise with partner organisations.

Required Qualifications

  • Relevant advanced university degree.
  • At least 5-10 years’ experience with government, company, civil society organisation, or a development agency.
  • A sound knowledge of development, private sector development, energy and/or natural resources management, law, public finance, or project management.
  • Ability to influence organisations, governments, civil society and industry through a combination of strong writing, presentation and networking skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and openly with a wide range of team members, while retaining the ability to act independently.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. Fluency in Portuguese is desirable though not necessary. Other languages are an advantage.
