Communications Intern

The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) International Secretariat is recruiting a full-time intern for a six-month period to join our headquarters in Oslo, Norway.

This position offers the chance to join an international and vibrant working environment helping citizens of resource-rich countries benefit from their natural resources and to work on subjects at the cutting edge of sustainable development and good governance.

The Communications team is responsible for developing the strategic direction of the EITI’s core messages, raising public awareness around natural resource governance, producing internal and external communication material (e.g. news items, website and social media content, publications), strengthening existing and developing new forms of engagement, promoting open data and handling media relations.

We are looking for a creative, proactive and enthusiastic intern to join our team. You must be resourceful, flexible, self-driving, have the ability to think big and start small, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

The intern will be paid 170 Norwegian Kroner per hour and should expect to work 37.5 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain EITI’s website, including posting, copy editing, organizing content and fact checking
  • Compile and distribute EITI’s monthly newsletter
  • Lead the development and execution of an effective social media strategy
  • Uphold EITI’s presence across social media channels, deploying our brand voice and tone accurately when engaging with the community
  • Support the Communications team in editing and formatting publications
  • Monitor media outlets daily for relevant articles about EITI, and issues related to good governance in the extractive industry, for internal distribution and sharing on social media
  • Help document EITI events though photos, films and interviews with participants
  • Coordinate logistical requirements as assigned, including perhaps on the upcoming EITI 2019 Global Conference

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree, preferably in Communications, Journalism or International Relations
  • Proficiency with basic computer programs including Microsoft Office, social media tools, and media applications. Familiarity with HTML and Photoshop is a plus
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. French, Spanish, Russian or Portuguese are highly desirable, but not required
  • Ability to work independently; to be highly organized and detail oriented, while coordinating multiple projects simultaneously
  • Willingness to work in an “all hands on deck” environment, and engage in a variety of tasks
  • Experience working in an international environment and with international partners is an advantage
