Dear Janne,

At UN Environment we have developed a geo-spatial platform to support the sustainable use of natural resources, evidence based decision making and integrated planning. The MapX platform is available here: https://www.mapx.org/ . We would be very happy to provide further information and explore opportunities for collaboration. Please don't hesitate to get in touch - inga.petersen@un.org

Kind regards,

Inga

Dear Janne,

ITRI (the global tin industry association) has developed our own successful traceability procedures for conflict minerals (see https://www.itri.co.uk/itsci/frontpage) as well as investigated a range of digital options, and worked with a supply chain management provider. Feel free to get in touch, regards, Kay (kay.nimmo@itri.co.uk)

Dear Janne, I can't send you a private message since we are not yet friends on GOXI, but I wanted to make you aware of a publication and new area of research we are starting at the U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Centre, which is funded by GIZ. See this link. This publication is about so-called "digital tools" - technological solutions to monitor natural resource extraction and production. The focus of the publication is on tools that can be used to reduce corruption, but the basic ideas underlying these initiatives and the types of technologies being used are not unique to corruption (and many of the tools we have identified were not designed with the idea of reducing corruption in mind). We plan to do more work on how to use various types of technology and also big/open data to monitor resource use. Please get in touch if this is of interest: kendra.dupuy@cmi.no

Dear Kendra, great to be in touch again. I heard about the study and would love to talk to you about it. I'll be in touch next week. Cheers, Janne

Hello Janne! It is rare that I can comment on digital / new technology but on a recent GIZ assignement I was working on open data issues in Mauretania. Generally speaking, making EI-relevant data (primarily fiscal, but not necessarily only fiscal) available to the public more or less on real time via a Network and user-friendly Interfaces. Revenue Foundation is working on it on the Downstream (i.e. IT System) side, but the bigger challenge is to agree within a Gov to channel data and use one single Information System (rather than 125). The international EITI Secretariat will push forward this initiative, where Mauretania is in the forefront in Africa, implementation-wise. Happy to discuss more, Andre

Hi Janne, Mining Dialogues is a not for profit operating in South Africa. We are developing an open data collaborative platform with a major focus on inclusivity for mine affected communities. The project is being incubated in SA but is intended to become a global resource. We'd be very keen to share our experience and explore partnering opportunities. If this is of interest you can reach me at: tcooper@miningdialogues360.co.za. Best, Tracey

Hi Janne,

I currently work with a start up nonprofit called The Trade Foundation. The Trade Foundation is working towards transparency in mineral, metal, and gem trading through using QR code, blockchain tech, and open access for full traceability. There are several companies starting up with a similar effort to implement blockchain- though few are open access.

We have received our tax-exempt status and are working to cultivate fiscal support in developing the laser and traceability system. This is a point of struggle due to the niche nature of the work.

I would love to get the group's thoughts on desire to implement this kind of traceability tool and entities that you believe might support its development.

Thanks
