sharing in governance of extractive industries

Dear Goxians

We’re pleased to announce that applications are open for our 8th annual Executive Training on Extractive Industries and Sustainable Develop..., which will be held at Columbia University from June 1-12, 2020. This comprehensive course is designed to equip public sector officials and civil society representatives from resource-rich developing countries with the necessary skills to promote the responsible development of the extractive industries sector in resource-rich developing countries, apply analytical tools and frameworks to the unique context of extractive industries in their country, and to facilitate knowledge-sharing among the different countries represented at the course. A select number of representatives from the private sector and development agencies will also be admitted. Participants will receive a Statement of Attendance from Columbia University.

The topics of the program are aligned with CCSI’s Five-Pillar Framework for resource-based sustainable development. These pillars integrate five critical and inter-related areas of the extractive industries value-chain:

  1. Transparent and mutually beneficial legal framework
  2. Long-term planning and revenue management
  3. Leveraging investments for development through infrastructure and linkages
  4. Human rights and integrated development
  5. Environmental management

Among these inter-dependent themes, participants learn and explore:

- the geopolitics and political economy of extractive industries

- how to use and what to learn from fiscal models

- how to read and understand an extractive industry contract

- processes for meaningful stakeholder engagement and dialogue

- private sector perspectives and investment drivers

- the implications of climate change for resource-rich countries

- how to negotiate a complex deal

- and much more!

CCSI will be accepting applications on a rolling basis until the February 29, 2020 deadline. If you are interested in participating in the training or know of qualified candidates, please visit the training website for the application materials and additional details about the program, including the brochure and pricing. We warmly invite program sponsors to support the participation of qualified participants; interested sponsors should please contact us at ccsi@law.columbia.edu
